Question: Do you know how your customers found you?

One useful - and often overlooked - way to measure the impact of your marketing and communications programmes is to ask prospects a very simple question when they first engage:

"How did you hear about us?"

It's an easy, straightforward question that many people won't mind answering, but one that provides a mine of valuable information about where best to direct your customer acquisition effort - which marketing channels are working, and which could be improved.

This needn't be merely anecdotal feedback, or "when you remember to ask". You can systematise logging this key input by incorporating a brief “how did you hear about us?” multiple choice question into your website forms or customer service scripts. Any information gathered can then be fed back into your CRM system to drive continuous optimisation of your communications strategy.
